Sumayyah Interviews her Grandma
Submitted by Sumayyah

One of our members interviewed her Grandmother, Mrs Fatma Bai Nazarhussein M A Muraj, and asked her to compare the differences in how life was when she was growing up and how it is now...

Sumayyah Interviews her GrandmaThen...
"although there was not enough education and people were ignorant, but there was love within the family;  there was respect for others; the girls were treated respectfully; there was faith in their religion, and also women wore proper hijab."

Now...
"there is more knowledge and education to guide the people on the right path, but peoples' faith in religion is very weak.  The love within the family is not the same. Children don’t seem to understand the value of a family, and girls don't comprehend the true meaning of love!"

Challenges I faced Then...
"I got married at an early age and had children at young age; however my strong faith in Allah kept me going. It is this strong faith that helped me cope with difficulties, and I was also able to guide my children on the right path. Keeping one's children on the right path was one of the biggest challenges because of lack of education!"

Challenges young girls face Now...
"Girls, today find it hard to maintain a balance between the social pressures and the requirements of the religion!  The main reason for this problem is that the social structure of today's society contradicts the teachings of our religion. The girls feel challenged to choose between keeping up with their friends and living within the boundaries of the religion.  Young girls, now, also face the challenge of answering questions of the non-muslims which have arisen due to the media manipulation of the true facts.  Islam is portrayed in  negatively and this leads the youth to question their faith."

May Allah continue to guide us all on His path and may He hasten the re-appearance of the Mahdi (ajtf)!
