Imam Ali- The Most Faithful Companion of the Prophet
By Azra

If someone were to ask me why I would say Imam Ali(as) was the most Faithful Companion of the Prophet (pbuh), I would quote the following 3 incidents to prove my point!

1. At Zul Ashira, Imam Ali was the only one who was prepared to support the Prophet. The Prophet asked his close relatives who would support him and Imam Ali was the only one to stand up. The Prophet asked three times and Imam Ali was the only one who stood up all three times. The Prophet then told everyone that Imam Ali was his brother and successor and everyone should listen to his words and follow him.

26:214-220 And warn thy tribe of near kindred,
(214) And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee.
(215) And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do.
(216) And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful.
(217) Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray)
(218) And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship).
(219) Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower.

2. Imam Ali slept in the Prophet’s bed. He asked the Prophet if sleeping in his bed would save his life and the Prophet said yes, so Imam Ali sacrificed himself for the Prophet.

2:207- And of mankind is he who would sell himself, seeking the pleasure of Allah; and Allah hath compassion on (His) bondmen.

3. During the battle of Khandaq when the enemy had jumped over the ditch, the Prophet asked who would fight him and Imam Ali was the only one to volunteer.

33:23- Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least.
