Usually when one goes to a ladies Majlis (indian/pakistani style) in the month of Muharram there usually is a lady who is very eager on reciting a few couplets before the reciter begins the majlis. Most people give annoying looks to this person because they feel she takes away time from the lecture/majlis, some just frown to have to hear the same couplets again and again.
I can say that I was one of these people until one fine day I saw this old lady very eager to recite a couplet. Most of the organizers were not keen, because the 'two minutes' taken would put their time off. One could, however, see the persistence in the lady's intention to recite the couplets. It was at this point I realized the courage and strength the woman had. 'Who would really care to speak up when most people are frowning; unless one truly believed in what one wanted to say or one had a special desire to show her true love?', I thought to myself.
It almost seemed like she didn't care what anybody said, she just had this desire to present her little gift to Imam Hussain(a.s.) in the form of a couplet no matter what.
This was the first time I actually 'listened' to the couplet and this is what the gist of it was
"It is not surprising that the daughter of Imam Hussain (a.s.) died in the prison
Surprising is how she survived in the prison."
These two sentence from this old lady touched my heart so deeply and truly, they were enough for me to visualize the atrocities the ahlulbayt went through. This is when I realized how much love and reverence this old lady has for the Ahlulbayt, and this is the lady I honor because of her true love and courage!
I truly admire this lady and all the other ladies who do not hesitate to exhibit their love for the Ahlulbayt in their own style! |
